Introduction of the Faculty

The team is affiliated with the Zhejiang-Canada Joint Translational Visual Cognition Laboratory (Zhejiang Belt and Road Laboratory). The team consists of a Chinese research team (including 15 senior title staff, 17 doctoral degree staff, and more than 40 master and doctoral students) from the Visual Function Impairment and Repair Team, the Visual Information Processing and Brain Plasticity Team, and the Optometry Center of the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, and a Canadian research team (6 professors, more than 30 post-doctoral and post-graduate students) consisting of 6 groups from the McGill Vision Institute of McGill University, Canada.
Researcher Zhou Jiawei, the director of the laboratory (head of the mentor group), is the subject leader in the direction of visual cognitive science in our university. Led by the demands of visual health from t two countries, China and Canada have cooperated with each other on scientific and clinical issues related to functional eye disease and visual cognition to jointly build a win-win situation and seek common development. The team has co-published more than 20 important academic papers in renowned journals and jointly applied for 2 international cooperation projects.

Personal Profile

Dr. Yu is currently the Deputy Director of the Optometry Clinic of Zhejiang Eye Hospital, Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, and Associate Professor. He is the deputy head of the Assistive Technology Group of the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Committee of the China Disabled Persons Rehabilitation Association; a member of the Committee on Prevention and Treatment of Visual Impairment of the Ophthalmologist Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. He has been a visiting scholar in the United States and France. He is mainly engaged in the treatment of strabismus, binocular vision and low vision rehabilitation, with an annual clinic attendance of about 4500.  He has published more than 10 papers as the first author, which have rich clinical practicality and scientificity. He has presided over a provincial natural science foundation project, and participated in a provincial ministry project and a national natural science foundation project. He participated in the preparation of the Tenth Five-Year Plan, Twelfth Five-Year Plan and Thirteenth Five-Year Plan of the Ministry of Health. Low Vision Technology.

Dr. Zhou, a doctorate supervisor, director of Zhejiang-Canada Joint Translational Visual Cognition Laboratory, PI of Visual Function Impairment and Repair Group of Wenzhou Medical University, deputy director of Optometric Treatment Center of Wenzhou Medical University Affiliated Optometric Hospital. He is the executive director of China Medical Devices Industry Association Visual and Auditory Health Industry Technology Branch, executive director of the first council of China Visual and Auditory Health Industry Technology Innovation Alliance. He has been devoted in the visual information processing mechanism, damage mechanism and repair pathway of human brain visual cortex using amblyopia, strabismus, myopia and other common visual functional eye diseases as models. He has presided over 6 national/provincial projects and published 57 SCI or SSCI papers (49 of which are first or corresponding authorship) in P ROY SOC B-BIOL SCI, IOVS and other internationally recognized academic journals; he has granted 1 US invention patent. Recognized by the society, he was selected as one of the top ten scientific research highlights of Optometry Group in 2017. He has received more than 3 million RMB from Huawei, Opple Lighting and other famous enterprises for his projects. He has been selected as a member of Zhejiang University Leading Talents Young Outstanding Talents, Zhejiang Young High-Level Talents Association, Wenzhou Special Support Program Young Top Talent, Wenzhou 580 Overseas Elite Introduction Program.
